CEO Update, May 2019
CEO Update, May 2019
May 30, 2019
May was a fantastic month for Modum: Swiss Post announced the commercial availability of their service, based on MODsense. We were included in one of the most prestigious reports in our field, we have a new board member, and we won important customer pitches. These achievements together are key enablers for us to further accelerate our international business growth. In this update, I would like to explain our view on these successes.
When expanding business internationally, especially as a young company, we believe that four factors are key to fast progress: providing unique competences, a great value proposition vouched for by industry-recognized advisors, and demonstrating this on a strong, enterprise-grade reference case. We also believe in building a strong network of partners for indirect market access, implementation scalability, and strong, direct marketing and sales excellence.
In May, we achieved several major milestones to support this strategy:
Swiss Post Announcement
This month saw a long-awaited milestone for us: Swiss Post launched their “Thermomonitoring” solution which is based on our technology. As you might remember, last year, in April, we officially announced our collaboration with Swiss Post. We are thrilled to say that, twelve months later, the product is finally commercially available for Post business customers. It was an instructive and challenging journey to get to this point. We have gained lots of valuable experience on how to integrate our solution into an existing ecosystem and how to make the solution work reliably in the hands of Swiss Post Customers and over 13’000 Swiss postmen. We are now ready to ramp up sales activities, reacting to the market demand we see steadily increasing since we started, while also having a strong reference case to show to potential customers. I personally want to once again thank all the team members at Swiss Post and Modum who helped make this possible.

We are a Cool Vendor
Modum was named one of three “Cool Vendors in Blockchain Technology 2019” by Gartner. Gartner is the leading research and advisory company that provides research for senior leaders with trusted business insights, strategic advice, and practical tools to support them in achieving their mission-critical priorities – giving them the opportunity to build the organizations of tomorrow. For us, as a young company, to be recognized by the Gartner analysts is not just a tremendous validation that we are on the right track, but also, being named a Gartner Cool Vendor is usually a significant sales booster. This is due to the fact that vendors are put on the radar of senior decision makers across all industries. As Marc Degen, our Chairman, said, “Modum is honored to be included as a 2019 Cool Vendor in Blockchain Technology. We believe it is an exciting achievement for us, and that the technology mentioned in this report is a glimpse into the future of Blockchain integration and sustainability.” Read our media release.
Changes in the Board
We have already pointed out that commercialization is our top priority. With the appointment of Mark Holenstein to our board, we added profound B2B sales expertise to our team. Mark is the Chief Operations Officer of Signavio and has previously worked in senior sales roles at SAP Hybris. With the addition of Mark and the changes in the management team at the end of 2018, we are now ideally set up to scale our business across international markets. Please join me in welcoming Mark to the Board of Directors! Read our media release.
Given these achievements and the increasing customer access facilitated by our business partners, such as SAP and Deloitte, we believe that we picked the right approach and are on a great trajectory for taking our young company to the next level in the coming months.
The same applies to our direct marketing efforts. We have a great event pipeline and a great conversion into actual customer workshops. Some events I would like to mention at this point are:
In the April CEO Update, I told you about Carl Spörri, our Chief Commercial Officer, presenting our various use cases at the GIRP Roundtable – this led to him being invited to the GIRP 60th Annual Meeting and Conference in Stockholm as a speaker. Carl held a well received speech which led to several workshop invitations from attending representatives.
At the beginning of June, our Director of Business Development, Robert von Arx, and our Sales & Account Manager, Yves Holenstein will represent Modum at the Transport Logistics exhibition in Munich. This is the world’s leading trade fair for logistics, mobility, and supply chain management.
At the end of the month, Carl Spörri will be joining Yves Holenstein at Temperatuz in Barcelona, an exhibition that focuses on being the premier end-to-end GDP Pharma Network.
Around the same time, Tobias Peltenburg Brechneff, our Chief Operations Officer, will be joining Fabian Studer from ABB and Christoph Merle from M-Industry/Migros Genossenschafts-Bund in Rorschach, Switzerland for the Supply Chain Innovation Day to talk with HSG Prof. Dr. Erik Hofmann about supply chain management.
You can find the full list of our currently planned events here.
We would be thrilled to meet you at one of these events. Please reach out to schedule a meeting with us.
I am looking forward to a successful June and wish you all the same. Thank you for your ongoing support.
